let's say someone was arrested for having a small amount of drugs on them, how long would it take for the cop to fill out the paper work and book him in? And what if it was a bigger crime, like carring a unregistered gun around?

  1. The officer is required to file an incident report that will include offense information, the suspects information, booking and charge information, and evidence logs for any items confiscated. They may also have to document any witnesses or victims.

They then do a supplemental report which details everything they did... starting from the reason they contacted the person. This report must include all elements of the offense, and any evidence tying the suspect to the crime.

It can be quite a lengthy process.
