  1. 40% is standard for the rum, tequilla, vodka, and whisky.  Although there may be more depending on the brand.

beer typically ranges from 3 to 8%.

Thats some week tequila your drinking there, tinkerbell

  2. Distilled spirits like the ones you list tend to be around 40-50% alcohol by volume.  You can tell exactly by looking on the label for the "proof" of the spirit.  Due to some antiquated measurement units, 200 proof is the same as 100% pure alcohol, and 0 proof is no alcohol at all, so 100 proof is 50% alcohol.  The spirits you list tend to be 80-100 proof, though there are some rums that are higher and good ol' Everclear is 190 proof (95% alcohol, whoa!)

  3. For distilled spirits it varies by brand and style, but most are roughly 40-45% alcohol.  You can determine the percent alcohol of the spirit you are consuming by taking the proof found on the label, and dividing by two.  Pure alcohol is 200 proof.

For beer, alcohol content varies by brand, style, and state regulations.  Generally, most beer is 3.5-4.5% alcohol.  Ice brewed beers are around 6-7% alcohol.  Sierra Nevada produces a seasonal beer called "Bigfoot Barleywine" it is often as high as 13% alcohol.

  4. these are approx! depending on the brand, rum 40%, tequilla, 25%, vodka 37.5% beer between 3%and 8.6% , whiskey 30% hope this helps a bit!

  5. Your typical rum is 35-40%, spiced and flavoured rums are usually the weaker ones.  Whiskys are usually 40-43%, cask strength whiskys are around 70%.  I think most tequila is bottled at 40%.  Most vodka is bottled at 40%, 50% is sometimes available as black label.

Your typical beers are 4-6%.  There are high gravity barley wines and Belgian ales that can be 10-12%.  A few micro breweries make some crazy stuff that is over 20%.

  6. If it's 80 Proof than the percentage is 40. Same goes for Beer except it's just the opposite. If it's 5% by volumn than it's 10 proof.

  7. By volume:

Rum is typically 35%.  Captain Morgan's, Bacardi are usually 35%.  Some are higher (Sailor Jerry is 46%).

    Tequila is almost always 40%.

Vodka is also mostly 40%.  Some are 50%, like Absolut 100.

Whisky ranges a bit, but the standard is 40%.  Jack Daniels, for example.  Some of the higher end stuff is cask strength.  k**b Creek is 50%, and Booker's is around 62%.

Gin is also usually 40%, but some like Tanqueray are 48.5%.

Light beer is 4.2%, with the exceptions of Heineken Light & Amstel Light, which are 3.2% (yes, ABV, not ABW).

Regular beer is 5.0%.  This is only mass-produced beer.

There is a huge variety in microbrews and imported (eg Belgian) beers, though.  I believe the figure was that half are above 6%, while the rest are obviously below 6%.  With those below, very few are under 4.9%.  And with those above, you will notice that Barley Wines are the highest (11-14%), and Imperial Russian Stouts are also high (9-10% is common).  Pale Ales, and IPAs are usually 6-7%.

And wine has been pretty much standardized at 13.5% for tax purposes.  The exception being Rieslings (8-9%), a light flavored white German varietal, and Red Zinfandel (commonly 15-17%).
