I mean Obama says he will bring them home swiftly

and McCain says they will come home when there is success regardless of a time line

I should know this answer but it has been so long since I've taken Government class

don't other government officials have a larger say than the president

Thanks

  1. The President has to have more power because he can act quickly in an emergency situation, and because it next to impossible to get so many people that make up the Congress to agree.

That's why it's so very important that the President and his cabinet not lie to the public like our current President has.  And going to war has to be the last option when all others have failed.

  2. All of it! He's the Executive Branch, he may not be able to rule on domestic hearings or pass laws with out congressional approval, but he can do whatever the h**l he wants with the military.

  3. Since this is not a declared war the President pretty much does as he wants.

  4. The President of the United States is THE

Commander-in-Chief of the armed forces of

the United States. He has GREAT power, in

      this instance.

  5. All of it.  He's the Commander in Chief.  Therefore, all the war crimes are his.

Please realize that Saddam in much the same manner as Noriega was a long time CIA asset and helped into power by America.  America didn't care in the least how cruel Saddam was or Noriega's CIA drug running until they had a falling out.

So Noriega was taken out of power with a midnight siege of 26,000 American troops and in the process with guns and bombs killed thousands of Panamanians, many of whom were sleeping in their beds.  All innocent of any crime!

Now, America has taken out Saddam with a lot of hoopla from uncaring Americans about the possible million plus killings of mostly innocent Iraqis and the 5 million plus refugees from Iraq and Afghanistan.

Oh yeah. I forgot, they're all willing to give up their lives for American puppet democracy.  Yankees - just stay home.  Please.

  6. Uhhhh the troops are still there aren't they?  If they refuse to serve they can go to jail/prison.

If the troops are pulled out now, the country will go to ****, and it will be even worse than if Saddam was still there.  The war will end when that country is established, or we will just have to go back in later to take out more communist threats.  Think about it...  The President ALWAYS has the final say on what happens.

  7. what they do or how they do it??

  8. The Commander in Chief can do whatever he pleases in regards to troop movements.

However, the President delegates the power to the generals on  the ground, but holds power to override decisions of generals and commanders.

The only exception is if there is a five star general. The five star general has complete control of troops and strategy and can override the President in regards to troops.

  9. Well if you think about it, The president is the militaries leader in a way, thats the branch they fall under

  10. The Commander in Chief can fire any general who doesn't show signs of achieving what the Commander in Chief calls "success."

In the case of Iraq, success for Bush is "staying the course."  (Translation: Staying  there until either the oil is gone, or most of the population is dead.)

Obama calls success "withdrawal."  But how swiftly?

McCain calls success "Bomb Bomb Bomb . . . Iran."

  11. Nope. The Commander In Chief is the ultimate big boss of all Army-Air Force, and Marine-Navy personnel.
