I'm a talking about the aluminum foil shield style, foam dielectric, with a copper welded steel center conductor. Will it handle 3000 watts of HF rf ?

  1. well first of all you need RG58 and it is 50 ohm. The RG59 is 75 ohm and that's usually used for video equipment...so make sure you get the right stuff. But my specs on RG58 say it will not handle 3000 watts...

The HF freq is ok...but you will surely melt it down...I would suggest you go up a bit and switch to a LMR400 style cable or RG8 coax. The LMR400 has a solid center conductor and why less loss. What kind of distance are you trying to use. This will affect you losses as well. RG8 usually has the same characteristics as LMR400 but has a stranded center conductor and is more flexible. If you are going to using this as a control station then I would get down to business and get the good stuff and buy LDF4-50A...heliax and reach out and touch someone. With this kind of power and at that low of freq, your gonna talk to hawaii
