How much practice does it take until a music student can play the piano with both hands?

  1. It also depends on the age of the student. Adults and older students will progress quicker through the initial stages. I started at 5 and to be honest don't remember exactly when we started with two hands, just remember learning scales and bascially learning how to play one note at a time, but some of that was 2 hands, since while you're learning notes (usually on both clefs at the same time)  you're also learning rythyms.

    I would say fairly quickly, but the types of songs you'd be playing with both hands would be very very basic.


  2. I think it depends on the person and how much they practise and how quickly the grasp on concepts on music etc.

    For me it took 2 lessons to be able to play some basic songs with two hands =] I started by doing scales with both my hands at the same time.

    Sorry I couldn't give you a specific "time" or amount of practise you need to be able to play with both hands but it really just depends on the person, there capability to grasp things quickly and how much they practise.
