How much pressure is on the Boston Bruins now to win a Stanley Cup ASAP?

Boston is now without any doubt the TitleTown of the USA, sorry Green Bay!!

In this decade/and century

1. New England Pats: 3 Superbowls (all in their history)

2. Boston Red Sox's : 2 Wold Series Titles( first one in over 80+ years)

3. Boston Celtics: 1 NBA Title ( 17th overall and first in 22 years.

Boston Bruins haven't won a cup since the 70's.

Red Sox are the heavy favorite to win the 2008 WS.

The other 2 teams will be the heavy favorite to win it all again in the next upcoming season. Maybe even all 3 teams will become a dynasty?

New England is Big on hockey but more of the attention in NE have shifted away from the Bruins and more to the other 3 teams, especially now that the Celtics have won a title. Could attendence #'s drop for the Bruins if they don't become a serious contender soon?

Sports are a business and it's all about the money and the championship as it seems.

Your thoughts?

  1. I don't know if there's pressure to win a Stanley Cup ASAP but they'll do pretty well next season. The made it a lot further this season than anyone had ever expected them to. They were predicted for what, last place? They really gave the Habs a tough series (not game 7) and I think the attendance numbers are going to be huge next year, they already are serious contenders.

  2. Not bad, Boston.

The Bruins might be pressured but I don't see it happening with the Habs, Pens, and Caps looking real good for the future and that's just the East.  The West is solid and stacked and lead by the dominating Wings and hard hitting Sharks and Ducks.

  3. The bottom line is so long as the bottom line is good: NONE

  4. Good question.

Obviously the Patriots, Red Sox, and Celtics are currently great teams that have set the bar pretty high in terms of expectations of Boston/New England fans.

In my opinion, The Bruins are on the right track.  I think their team would have been better if Bergeron would not have been out for the year.  I also think they will make a move or two via free agency to shore up some holes.

Obviously, there is always going to be pressure to win and win now, but I think that the Bruins' front office realizes that it is not an overnight thing.  Remember, they did make the playoffs this year.  I think the measuring stick will be can they do it again but advance this time.  If they can, they have answered the bell, but also raised expectations yet again.  Not a bad place to be in if you think about it.

  5. None, because no one expects it.  And there doesn't even look like there is light at the end of the tunnel.

  6. Probobaly quite a bit. All the other Boston teams like you said have been doing really well, and the Bruins have had nothing to show.

  7. I'm not into hockey really, but I'm a huge Pats/Sox fan and I like the Celtics too.....I don't see many people here in New England that even watch hockey so I don't think there is much presssure, maybe if you are in the North End during Hockey season....

  8. I agree with Joe. Having 3 other winning teams takes pressure away because a Boston sports fan can always say at least if the Bruins don't win, I've got the Pats, Celtics, and Red Sox.

  9. Attendence numbers are way down already, but Jacobs doesn't care because he owns the building and is making plenty of money off of the Celtics attendance. Interestingly enough I heard this last night. Pretty much all Boston teams started winning after a change in ownership, with the Jacobs family as an owner, the Bruins are going nowhere fast.

I love all Boston teams, but the Bruins are by far my favorites, I'd LOVE to see them win one.

The Beanpot (for those who don't know, it's held in the same arena as the Bruins games and is BC, BU, Northeastern, and Harvard's little tournament) sells out every game every year, but the Bruins can barely manage to sell out a regular season game.

Oh..and you forgot to mention the BC Eagles won the NCAA Championship.

EDIT: Haha..people around here love our Eagles :]

EDIT: I agree with James 100%. the only thing is people around here are used to them being in the playoffs. The one and done Bruins is what everyone has in their minds...once the Bruins face that people will start watching and attending more games.

  10. I say theres no pressure in Boston.Thats because of the other 3 teams..Same as the Blackhawks had in Chicago with Jordan and da Bears winning Championships. Now the Flyers are in a town that haven't won a Championship since 83,thats alot of pressure..Same with Toronto and Montreal, loads of pressure there.

  11. The same as the other 29 teams in the NHL.  It is Pro sports the pressure is always extremely high to win; jobs are always on the line, and there is Billions of dollars to be made .... So VERY high.
