How much profit does Apple earn per Iphones & Ipods?

How much does Apple (c) profit per Iphones & Ipods? I mean deduct the components & labor cost. I heard an average of 5$ each, from my brother whom use to work at FRY. Is he right? I read on wikipedia that 170 millions ipod were sold as of 2008. If only 5 dollar were made from each that would mean they only made $ 850,000,000 over the last 7 years. That's alot of money, but it doesn't seem to cover the expenses of production,advertisement,hardware components, and labor.
