  1. the main rain that falls in ireland is relief rain.the annual rainfall is between 500mm to 2500mm.

  2. There is a reason it's so green over there...it rains a lot.

  3. The average number of wet days (days with more than 1mm of rain) ranges from about 150 days a year along the east and south-east coasts, to about 225 days a year in parts of the west.

Unlike the rain in many other countries, especially in the tropics, average hourly rainfall amounts in Ireland are quite low, ranging from 1 to 2mm. Short-term rates can of course be much higher: for example, an hourly total of 10mm is not uncommon and totals of 15 to 20mm in an hour may be expected to occur once in 5 years. Hourly totals exceeding 25mm are rare in this country and when they do occur they are usually associated with heavy thunderstorms.

  4. TBM's very professional answer can't be faulted for accuracy. But the truth of the matter is it rains far less in Ireland than the figures suggest. The standard Irish retort to the question "Will it rain" is "You want a fine day? Wait ten minutes". I lived in Ireland for over 55 years much of it in the [wetter] West. The figures tell you on how many days rain fell but not how much. MOST days in the west there will be some spot of rain sometime during the day. But the rest of the day will be dry!
