I've been staying a couple of days with an old friend, and offered to cook dinner for her and her boyfriend. I was making a potato curry and kept testing it over and over again to see how it was coming along and if the potatoes had cooked. It took over an hour for them to cook, and I know more than a few potato cubes were still raw when I "tested" them. I probably ate about 7-10 half inch cubes over the course of 30 minutes.

My stomach started hurting later, but I didn't think anything of it.

This morning, I have woken up to find my eyelids gruesomely swollen, to the point that they have doubled over. I also have a splitting headache.

Is it the raw potato that has caused this? I thought you had to eat loads of them to get sick. I am extremely perplexed.

  1. That's weird! But raw potatoes shouldn't do that - unless, did they have any green on them? You know, just under the skin sometimes potatoes have green. I've read that this is a mold or something that is very toxic, and some people are allergic. Lots of people eat raw potatoes on salads etc., with no ill effects. Might want to see a doc about an allergy - maybe soon. If you have any breathing difficulties go to ER.
