  1. Guppies and platies don't need salt and it's better to leave it out.  It's very hard to maintain a balance with your water changes and you can end up with too much very easily.

  2. Why do you want to salt your tank? Those are freshwater fish.

Are you trying to salt to combat an ich outbreak? Here's a site:

But I don't know if platys or guppies are salt-tolerant to the same extent that goldfish are. Have to wait for someone who knows their trops.

Please don't add salt at all until you're sure that your fish can tolerate it.

  3. one teaspoon for every 5 gallons, so in your case 2 teaspoons.

Don't listen to the second answer, salt helps keep diseases out of your tank, i have been putting salt in my take for 2 years and have not had one disease. Pickling salt works well to and is cheaper.

make sure you dissolve the salt in water before you put it in the tank.

And don't worry about perfect measurements, its ok if you put a bit extra in.

  4. 1 teaspoon per gallon. Make sure it is livebearer salt not aquarium salt meant for saltwater aquariums.

  5. the norm is 1 tablespoon for every 5 gallons

  6. I don't know how much salt is suppose to be in one gallon on water, but do some research and make a proportion.
