How much salt water comprises of the water altogether? And clean water as well?

  1. Hello Coolsshaznaz, the info that I will give here comes from National Geographic itself. Please see the link below. According to them:

    1. 97% of the world's total water is salt water in oceans &  seas; and, slightly less than 3% is in the form of fresh water (polar ice caps, groundwater, rivers, lakes, wetlands, etc.)

    2.  Now we go on to Fresh Water:  77% of this is polar ice; 22% is groundwater; and 1% is rivers, lakes, wetlands.

    3. Only 23% of World’s Fresh Water can be used for drinking water. Roughly 95% of this drinking water comes from groundwater and less than 5% comes from rivers, lakes, wetlands.

    4. In conclusion: Only less than half of 1% of the Earth's total water is available for people to use.

    Additional: By the way, I remember from a year ago of news about the technology of converting sea water into drinking water. After a search in the web, I found out that this technology is currently not in widespread use, but the technology is there.
