Only way to know is to talk to your local pool shop. They usually test the water for free and ask about the condition of the water etc. It costs a few extra bucks to buy from them, so unless it's just a few things, I just get their recommendations and buy elsewhere. I usually only need one dose (comes in a packet at the pool shop) , but I keep my pool just as clean over winter.
