Question:

How much should I (an adult) spend on a Sweet 16 gift for a neighbor?

Here's the thing - I'm 26, I've known my neighbor since she was a year old, and now she's having her Sweet 16 party which she invited me to. Seeing as how I haven't been to a Sweet 16 party for about 10 years, and I've never been to one as an adult, I have no idea how much money I'm supposed to give as a gift. I was thinking around $50, but I can't seem to wrap my mind around giving a 16 year old fifty dollars, when it's proper to give $100 as a wedding gift...any suggestions would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!

  1. $50 would be good considering your long relationship...or since it's a day she should remember you could buy her something she could treasure forever....something from her cool 26 year old friend would be perfect and it would touch her heart.

  2. I don't know what is readily acceptable, but $50 sounds like a lot to me too.  I would be thinking more around $35 unless you're very good friends with her family.

  3. We just had our sweet 16 a month ago.  We live in the burbs, most houses about 350,000.  No one spent more than 20 bucks on gifts, not even best friends.  My daughter got a lot of gift cards to like mostly target, a few from some of her favorite clothes stores, a cute throw pillow, a stuffed animal, a necklace, a bracelet, a couple kids pitched in for a bigger gift and cash 15-20 per card.

So that should give you an idea of where t start at.

If at all possible since you a have known her since she was one I would think you would know her well enough to get her a gift that she would like. There is no price.  Maybe she has a pink theme room and you could get her something that would fit in. Maybe get her a cute necklace from Claires in the style she likes, maybe she goes to the movies with her friends alot and you can get a gift cardm sparkle perfume from Rue.  If she just has everything and you dont want to go wrong just give a 25.00 mall gift card, or favorite store gift card or 25.00 dollars, but personally I myself would try to get a gift but nothing more than 25.00.

  4. I dont see any problem in giving them $50 or another idea would be the day before take her to the mall and just look around take careful observation of what she wants then later go and the the one thing she really wanted
