Question:

How much should I be paid for this?

I'm 14 years old, and I'm watching my 16 month old cousin for my aunt from 11:30am - 3pm.

She said she would pay me because I've only babysat a few times in my life..well, a baby anyway. lol.

I basically have to play with her, give her lunch, give her a bottle & put her down for a nap...possibly change her diaper.

So how much should I be paid? Someone said at least minimum wage (however much that is), but I don't know if that applies to me doing a favor for my family.

What do you think?

By the way, I'm not saying I want to make more money...I'd be happy with whatever she gives me.

I'm just not sure how it works (: haha I'm uneducated in the babysitting world....

Thanks!

  1. Probably because you guys are family and lack of experience $6 an hour, maybe $7.

  2. Most teens charge about $5 for family and then up to $7 for full time baby sitting for a stranger. Sometime baby-sitters give a discount for several hours. Since it is 3 1/2 hours I would charge $15 if it was me, but if you really don't want to charge that at least get $10 if you want to be paid something. If you charge less they may want to hire you more often but don't let them take advantage of you either. They may want to buy you a hamburger, fries and a drink when they come home, then I would just charge $10. You might even say - hey if you bring me a hamburger, fries and a drink then I will just charge $10 each time I baby sit. That's a pretty good deal. If they ask you to baby sit more hours then ask for about $4 more per hour.

  3. ask her for $20.

  4. probably 6 dollars an hour. that is how much i charge for family. for everyone else i charge seven. it is a bit lower than normal, but people higher you more if you charge less

  5. $5 an hour .

  6. i took a babysitting class and they said somewhere between 3 and 6 dollars an hour.

  7. i dont think you should get paid bc your doing something for your family, but depending on how close you and your family are and all that stuff you'd probably get paid good $. i know if i babysat for my aunt shed prob give me a few hundred and then wed fight over it for an hour

  8. money is nice but is it everything. I would just accept what ever she planned to pay me,

  9. I also say at least minimum wage.

  10. since it is for a family member it should be a little less than a day care.  But you should be paid a fair amount.  Since you do not have to pay taxes etc you should get $5 per hour. Is this 5 days a week? that should cover your time if you enjoy the work.
