How much should I bid on eBay?

I never bought anything on eBay before and i'm not really sure how things work. I just opened an account because there's these shoes I really like and the bid starts at $40 with 3 days left and 0 bids. I don't know if I should start now or wait till the last minute. and I don't know how much I should start bidding at. Thanx in advance for your help

  1. I usually wait until the last minute. Decide how much the max you would pay for the shoes and don't over bid. I've been guilty of getting excited and bidding more than I intended too. It depends on how much the shoes are worth, both and general and to you. For instance, say there's a pair of new shoes worth $40, you obviously don't want to bid $50 UNLESS they are the perfect color and style for a dress that you're having trouble finding shoes for. That would make them worth more than $40 to you. Does that make sense? Also, don't forget to figure in the shipping cost when you're bidding. Happy bidding!

  2. I would bid now, but just bid 1 dollar higher than the actually starting price. Then watch it like a hawk. It may go up, but usually it goes up in the last 10 minutes. Then you will be a bidder but if it goes up it will be easy to regain your item.

  3. Most people have set their computer to bid at 1 minute before the deadline.  You will have your hopes up until the very last minute. I always bid the minimum.  You have nothing to lose.  Then you have to hope the seller is not a scammer. Always a possibility. /
