How much should I budget for a honeymoon?

My Fiancee and I would really like to have our honeymoon in Hawaii, but we're on a budget. I'm not sure exactly how much to budget for it. Should I consult a travel agent or just book it ourselves? We're getting married next August.

  1. I don't know the exact price of a trip to hawaii, but I been told it can get expensive.  Research prices on your own then talk to a travel agent and see what price they could get you.  Remember to budget for eating and see how much any activities you'd like to do in advance will cost you.  Also compare it to an all inclusive resort vacation like sandals.  My fiance and I are going to sandals Montego bay resort.  We're spending about 4,000 including airfare.  The resort itself includes all meals, drinks and activities in the resort.  You also don't have to worry about bringing money with you because tips and taxes are figured into your price already.  You can get cheaper rooms there but we picked one with butler and room service so our price went up.  Here's a link to the website, we picked the Bay rock ultra luxury honeymoon beachfront villa.

  2. Hi and congratulations on your upcoming wedding!

I agree with the others.  Look around yourself AND consult with a travel agent.

One thing to think of that I don't think anyone else touched on is this....decide WHICH island or islands you want to visit.

~ Kauai is very quiet and peaceful and is excellent for honeymooners.

~ Maui would be my second choice....but is pricey.

~ The Big Island is my third choice...very nice.

I would avoid (my personal opinion) Oahu, which is the "biggest" island in terms of population.  This is where Honolulu is and the famous Waikiki Beach.  However, this is a VERY CROWDED island with lots and lots of tourists and residents.  I would avoid this island.

So....do your research.  Each island has it's pluses.  If you go to the Big Island....you need to research it as there are many "weather zones" on this one little island....you want to be on the "sunny side" of the island.

    Good luck!

  3. hmm I wouldn't recommend a "budget" trip to hawaii. there are too many areas that are full of crack heads (I hate to say it because I LOVE Hawaii)  But look around. Make sure you are on a resort of some kind with a name you've heard before.  your best bet may be to go talk to a travel agent and get some of those free books from them and see what they say about the budget.

    Good luck and congrats!

  4. My travel agent told me Hawaii is very expensive right now. We are going to Europe and I was discouraged by the prices of Europe and so I said, "Well, what about Hawaii?" thinking that was cheaper and she said that Hawaii was almost as much. We decided to just stick with Europe since that is what we wanted.

Of course, it depends on where you're coming from. I'm on the East Coast so flights to Hawaii are more than they'd be from the West Coast.

EDIT: P.S. For a trip as important as your honeymoon, I'd use a travel agent. I'm all for booking trips myself but for something this important, we decided to use a travel agent. You can look on www.theknot.com for recommendations for honeymoon specialist travel agents.

  5. Hawaii is very expensive because of the flights.  I would look at Aruba for a better price, appox $5000 for hotel, air and food.

  6. It really depends on what you can afford, where you are traveling from (flights can be expensive!) and what time of year.

Try looking up different websites to get an idea of prices. You can probably do it on your own without a travel agent. If you are on a budget, I also recommend taking a Hawaiian cruise, sometimes it is a lot cheaper than a hotel and so much is included.

  7. Hello,

How are you? I am a travel agent and a honeymoon specialist.  Now, I can't tell you what kind of budget to set for your honeymoon as I am not aware of what features/amenities that you would like for your honeymoon.  You are choosing a wonderful location for your honeymoon though.  If you were to contact me, we could figure out your budget, and I would do my best to have your honeymoon tailored and suited to your satisfaction.  Also, there's no charge for my services.

  8. I would do some investigating on your own and check out travel agents as well. A lot of times they can get you good deals and some will even tell you if you're better off doing it yourself. It depends how long you want to go for and where you live (flight costs can be enourmous!) in addition to what you want to see and how nice of a hotel you want to stay in. Do your own research, approach a travel agent and then decide what will work best for you.

    Good luck!

  9. no more than 2000.

  10. Hi,

I'm getting married next April and we have decided on Hawaii and Mexico for our 2 week honeymoon, so I've been doing a lot of research on Hawaii. I believe I can help you with your question.

I don't know where you are flying from, but a roundtrip flight from NYC in August is about $700 round trip, so count on $1,500 for two people.  A lot of times if you book the trip as a package (flight + hotel), it turns out to be cheaper than booking them separately.

Because I have been searching for Hawaii stuff, I recently received this email about condo rentals in Maui for 7 days for only $875!!!  See this link, looks legit:

    http://www.noelani-condo-resort.com/rate...

Also, since it is your honeymoon and Hawaii is not known for all-inclusives like, for example, the Caribbean or Mexico, expect to spend about $200 a night on your hotel.  So depending on how many nights you are going for, it would be another $1,400-$1,500 for the hotel if you were to stay for 7 nights.  So there you go: $3,000 on flight + hotel, and that's not counting anything you would do there (food, recreation, entertainment, etc.)  I would budget $5,000 for your honeymoon in Hawaii.

You also have to think about which island you would like to stay on.  I hear that Maui is the most romantic honeymoon destination, but that is an additional flight from Honolulu, and an additional couple of hundred dollars per person.  So if you are going to Maui, add another $500 to your budget.

I hope this helps.  Good luck and congratulations on your wedding!!! =)

  11. Do some research on your own, hotels in Hawaii, plane tickets, rental car and figure in $100 a day or so for food and any extra ammt. a day for recreation. You will probably get money from the wedding guest, but never count on that. Budget for what you can and consider any extra you get from guest a plus.

If your budget seems to make the Hawaii trip idea too tight, look for other ideas or locations to go. Cruises can be a decent price depending on where you go. But I would do research on your own and also consult a Travel Agent, they can usually give you package deals.

  12. Is your heart set out for Hawaii? If yes, I would recommend you start doing some detective work. Try checking out common websites such as Expedia, Orbit, Travelocity for Hawaii vacation package deals. The earlier you start working on it, the better. I'd recommend you start saving at least $100-200/mo set aside for your Honeymoon budget. This way you'll have the money ready when it's time to pay for the flight, hotel, food, etc. I don't know if it's rude/tacky, but you can probably set up a honeymoon registry where instead of gifts/cash, the guests can put the money toward your honeymoon so you only cover the balance left.

If you have relatives in Hawaii, they might be able to help you book a hotel at discounted price since they're Hawaii residents.

Another suggestion you might want to try is www.sandals.com. It's  good alternative to a beachy getaway.
