Question:

How much should I charge for a hand-painted t-shirt?

I want to start selling hand-painted t-shirts and would like to know what is considered to be a good price for one. They can't be ridiculously expensive, but they can't be too cheap either because they will feature original, unique and sometimes complicated designs that have been created and developed by me ad not copies of others' work. I thought of maybe pricing them according to the design and how much work it took me to make it; for example a t-shirt with a big complicated design will be worth more than one with a few little flowers on it. Also I'd like to know how much should I charge for things like hand-painted hats and shoes. Any other ideas and/or help that you can give me will be greatly appreciated.

  1. Charge materials plus &7.00 an hour.  Unless you have a wealthy customer base- in that case charge 6 times the cost of materials.

Don't forget you have to make enough to cover income tax. In Maine, that's 15% for a self employed artist.
