How much should I charge for a t-shirt design?

A friend of a friend owns a small, internet-based, clothing brand and I am in the process of selling him a design for a t-shirt. What would be a good price, considering the size of the business?

Are you selling the rights to it so it is his and his alone or are you selling him a liscence to use it, but could sell it to others as well?  You price would depend on those factors.

You might charge only a few hundred if you will also allow others to use it or thousands if you are selling him the rights.

Then I would say that probably a few thousand...but it would depend on the numbers he would likely sell.....you could just do it for a lower price and then royalties on each item he sells.
