I am a college student with a major in IT and I just completed my first year. I do not have any certifications, but I have been doind this off to the side kind of repairs, upgrades, and typical maintence for friends and aquantances for quite some time. I have worked at a High School doing these kind of maintence and repairs also. I feel like making this a little bigger and start charging around town and make it not just a friendly deal. So how much should I charge?

  1. It depends upon where you live, whether your customers are businesses or home-users, and what the competition in that area is charging.

We used to charge $85 per hour to businesses in Los Angeles and New York, but only $35 per hour for home-users in the mid-west.

If there isn't a lot of competition in your area, you know what you are doing and offer some type of warranty, and your customers are able to afford you, charge what you need to charge.

  2. I'm doing the same thing, I'm studying IT in college, after IT in the Navy. I do computer repairs on the side. For example,

-install software- $15-$25 W/ Proper Settings

(To buy and install- Software Price + $20) (or my software) 50% off retail

-Install/Upgrade New Windows Which I Sell Too- $50 1/2 Retail

    -Take Out Virus's/Spyware- $12 Each Virus/Spyware

    Software 1/2 Retail/ Buy & Install- Software price + $20

    -Defrag- $30

    -Install Hardware $40

    -Install Router- $30-$40

Just a Idea, Simple I know But some people really don't know anything about computers. For advance; email me.

  3. I think really you know yourself about this, there is no one answer.you alone will know what parts you fit,the time it takes,ad on the price of your skills, one way to find out is try prices,if your prices are right the news will travell and  BINGO your away.Apprentice.
