Question:

How much should I charge for designing animated banners?

I have designed some static banners already for $25 per banner (it's for a friend of a friend, so I didn't charge much). I need to provide quotes now for a set of 5 animated gif banners. They are a similar design, but 5 sizes. Any suggestions on what to charge? I am a graphic designer who sometimes does freelance design work on the side, but don't really know how to charge for my work.

Thanks in advance for the input.

  1. I would try how long it takes to make one of these banners and then charge by the hour.

For example, if it takes 3 hours to make one, charge $20 per hour for your time and you'll get paid $60 for each banner you sell.

To figure out how much to charge per hour, find out what an average salary is for a graphic designer and choose something in that range.  (For a salary, divide the salary by 2000 hours.  E.g. $35k per year / 2000 hours = $17.50 an hour.)
