I am planning to have a yard sale in a couple of weeks since my son is turning one. I have a ton of stuff to get rid of, but I have no idea what the average charge is for items at a yard sale... I want to make sure the prices are low enough for people to buy them, but I still want to make a decent amount of money!

Here are the items I have.

Baby Stuff:

Onesies

Rompers

Shirts

Shorts/Pants

Shoes

Socks

Hats

Jackets

A Coat

Washcloths

Towels

Bibs

Receiving Blankets

Blankets

A highchair

A carrier carseat with base

An exersaucer

A walker

A crib mattress

Crib sets (one Winnie the Pooh and one teddy bears)

A dresser

Toys

A sleeping wedge

A baby bathtub

Other Stuff:

Men's shirts

Men's pants

Women's jeans

Women's sweaters

DVD Racks

An end table

VHS tapes

Thanks!

  1. I think I remember reading once that you should charge a third of the original price. So if you paid a $1.00 for it charge .33 or .35 to round it off.

  2. I am an avid garage sale goer.  I will buy a lot if the items of clothing are the right size for my kids.  The biggest thing to remember is it is a garage sale and not sale prices at Macy's.  If I see jeans for 3-5 bucks I will walk away, if they are 1-3 bucks I will buy the lot.  Think about the items, if they don't sell will you be giving them away for free?  If the answer is yes price them to MOVE.  Adult clothing doesn't sell as well as the kids stuff so keep it cheap.  VHS is out of date so many people walk right past, keep em $1 or so.  The rest, be ready to negotiate with people who show interest.

  3. usually most yard sales have things that are less than $10.00. Anythiing that's very big such as a table, couches, ect. should be at least $10.00 to $20.00. Hope it helps!

  4. If you look on ebay you will see that most used clothing either doen't sell or sells for 0.99 unless its designer which can go for up to 10.00 or more.  I'd say looking on ebay would give you a good estimate for what used items sells for.  (Click on "completed items" so you see what they actually sold for instead of the current bids)
