How much should I charge for making this website?

I have been the webmaster (non-paid) for my church's website for the past year (June 2007 - Present) and they would like to pay me now for building and creating there website.

So...I know nothing about how to charge for web design. Please take a look at the site and let me know how much I should charge them? I want to be fair (I'm not a professional). Thanks!

  1. It's worth anywhere from $300 - $1,000 assuming the kinks all get worked out.  Before accepting any money, I would recommend getting feedback as to how you can improve it.  I don't say that to be mean, but there are some challenges with the site in Firefox and also some of the images need optimization.

  2. I would say anywhere from 350-500 dollars.

You also have to take into perspective the time it took you to create the site and the amount of updates the site needs. For a high traffic site that needs a lot of updated information, then i'd say charge 5-10 dollars a month just for updating information, unless the updates are small things like typos.

Also, i have some suggestions for you aswell. On the "Our Beliefs" page; You have a lot of content on it, and the way its laid out, im not even sure where to start reading.

To help this, i would recommend some color headings for each of the sections, and maybe a different typeset. Also, the links on the top, the ones next to the heading of the page, is whats really making it confusing.

Since its a church website, i would think that a good portion of your web patrons will be older then the typical web savvy browsers that you'd find on the internet, so you really want to focus on accessability when you're dealing with certain demographics.

Heres a demo template i created for a company called "Liftrac" which needed easy accessability, because their product was geared for the elderly and sick.

The page headings and their respective content are easily distinguishable due to colored headings and a set typeset style.

I dont want to nitpick on you or anything, but if you're ever in need of any kind of help, or you just want someone to talk shop with, feel free to contact me at Mr.Valentia@gmail.com

Or you can contact me through my website: www.gfxdashboard.com

    Hope i helped :P

  3. i would try to estimate your time it's taken to complete the site. most webmasters make between $30-$60 per hour. I would figure out my time and times it per hour. Don't make the mistake of giving your work away or charging too little, especially if you know you will be updating and do maintenance on the site in the future.
