Question:

How much should I charge for my first job as a nanny?

I'm talking to a couple about nannying. I have a bit of experience with children (a year of student teaching, classes in childcare and child development, caring for my own daughter), but I've never actually had a long-term babysitting job. I will be caring for my daughter at the same time, so I know that will lower the cost as well.

How much should I charge? I don't want to scare them off, but I don't want to s***w myself over either.

  1. I'd say around $8 dollars an hour would be fair.....

  2. Ask them what they think they want to spend on their child/children.  It doesnt work out as much per hour, but the benefits are quite good if you have to care for your own child.  They are buying, so get their offer.  Tell them there is someone else interested and that you want to be fair.  Nice people have nice children and that counts almost as much as the money.
