I am new to magazine and newspaper business. I just need to know how much a photographer will charge the local newspaper for a 1 to 3 hour event and for a whole day event 8 hours or more.

  1. Some photographers will charge people by the hour - but newspapers often have a set amount they pay, either PER photo or PER assignment, no matter how long you are there.

I live in New York and I am a reporter - my paper, along with others here, pay per photo. Local papers obviously pay less - but you first need to ask the editor(s) how much they will pay you for one photo. I would say try to get at least $50 per picture or assignment.

If you are freelancing, there might be certain rate local papers pay. Submit a few pics and see what happens.
