How much should I charge for preschool/daycare? It's run out of my home.?

I provide breakfast, lunch and 2 snacks. We have a mini-classroom within the home. We do activities everyday and have special snacks and parties. I used to be a Reading Recovery teacher for my local school district. I'm open bet. 10 -10 1/2 hours /day. How much should I charge for a daily rate? I live in Missouri. My max. would be 6 kids at once.

My neighbor charges $50 per week per child.  I want to do that when I  grow up.  Hopefully it works out for you.

the charge for a regular preschool would be about 55$ per student. but since yours is in-home and you provide that much it should be 40-45$ per child.

75 to 100 dollars a day is going rate for daycare Per 1 child.  Some daycares give a discount for more than one child.

Seeing you do not have all the overheads etc as a Commercial/business operation does, rule of thumb about 75% of their daily/weekly charges

My babysitter who also does this out of herhome charges about 220 a week and offers similar services. Just check with the state laws first. I know in Illinois you are only allowed to have 5 unrelated children in your home at one time. You will have to register with the state to have children in your home in a daycare setting legally.

The easiest way to figure out a fair rate is to do an assessment of the area in which you live.  Call around and pretend to be looking into childcare for a child.  Ask questions regarding the types of services that they provide, and how much they charge.  Call both centers and licensed family child cares so that you can see if there is a distinctive difference between the two in your area.  This "needs assessment" is also a great way to find out about your "competition" in the business.  You can see what other centers/daycares offer, and know if there is a special area where you might be able to offer something different (such as specializing in early morning or late afternoon/evening care, overnight care, special needs children, or doing pick-ups (picking up kids from school).  Once you get a list of about 10-15 daycares, rate them based on the types of services you provide that are similar to what they have (most similar first and so on).  Then, average the prices of the daycares you assessed to get a mean... this will be a moderate price from which to work with.  Then add for special services you will render or take off for what you will not as compared to the other centers on your list.

At $150 a week you are talking $30 per day.  At 10 hours a day that is $3 per hour - but with 6 kids that is $18 per hour or $900 per week.  That seems fair to me.

I live in California- which is really expensive.  Most At home preschool's charge $250 a week. I think Missouri cost is a lot less , so maybe $ 125.00 a week. no less. Good Luck!
