I will be teaching reading for about an hour twice per week. I am a certified 1st grade teacher.

  1. If she sent her kid to Sylvan, then she would be shelling out about $100 a week.

So you would be giving her a good deal charging her $15 to $25 an hour (which considering the price of a hair cut these days should be easily attainable for her)

  2. I pay my son's piano teacher (who has a PHD) $30.00 /hr  Maybe you can use that as a starting point.  Most tutors charge $50 to $100 per hour depending on the grade level and of course the area you live in.

  3. How good of a friend is she? If she is a "best friend" I would not charge at all, depending on their financial status. Even though you are a certified teacher helping a child learn to read is an amazing gift. Think of it more as a way to help a child than a way to make money.

Given the fact she is not a close friend and is a hair dresser, and you now stay home with your daughter I agree with dapiek's answer. I feel hairdressers make a lot of money for the time they put in. A half hour haircut can cost anywhere from $15 to $50 so I would not feel guilty about charging them.

  4. well in Australia for 1 hour of tutoring you will pay $40-60 an hour. As it is your friend you will need to lower the price but you need to make it worth your hours too
