Question:

How much should I do everyday for practice? (help I'm 5 foot 3 and want to play more!)?

I've been playing volleyball for about three years now. I'm 5 foot 3 (stopped growing) so most of the time I play as the libero or the setter (except when I stay back from blocking). I really want to be more of the setter but it probably would be best if I could jump higher. How much higher should I try to train to jump up to? Does anyone have a tip about ALL the workouts I should try to do everyday or as much as possible? Even websites with extensive training would be fine.

  1. my friend is 5'2 and he walks on his tippy toes and he can jump up to 6 feet and i am 5'7 and i can only jump to 6'3 so try that

  2. It depends on the position u play

If I were u I would play libero

    I play middle block

but in 9th grade i was 5'2" and i played libero

    work on thigh strength

if u are a setter work on ur finger strength

but overall work on everything depending on ur age

becuz u could very soon grow like i did

    lol good luck

  3. because i dont know how old u are, u may still have a growth spurt

i was once 5'0" when i started playing 7th grade

now i'm 6'7" and i play outside hitter and ohio state just recruited me

    work on everything

jumping, fingerstrength, and your shoulder strength

BUY the book workouts for volleyball players

it has many workouts and other thing  ned to knowm just o jump a bit higher

finding a point, on a wall or just jumping up and touching ur ceiling everyday will work fine

find a point that u can barely touch

work on jumping an trying to touch it with one and hand, with the other hand , and with both

    then you can use weights

    U WILL SEE A DIFFERENCE

  4. Alot of short people are really great in volleyball. You don't need to be tall for Volleyball. I know atleast 4 people who are 5 foot and 5 and are in varsity. They are really great player. Jump ropes always help.

  5. after warming up, try to jog for 15 minutes, then skipping. skipping can practice your jumps in terms of heights. there is no limit on how high you should jump to qualify, but more of how much you can control your jump and power. coz if you jump too high the ball will pass under you... :). after skipping, try to practice with the ball. it's best that you have someone to practice with, so that he/she can tell you how you can improve your skills.

  6. do lots of leg work outs. running is probably best. you should do a lot of core workouts, like cardio. your core is where you get the power for everything. you could do pilates to strengthen the core or situps or crunches. or you could jump continuously against the wall for however many minutes. after a while you'll notice that you'll jump higher

    have fun! :]

  7. I would try doing activity to help improve your vertical jump some more.  I was a setter and I too was on the shorter side.  I ordered some shoes called Strength Shoes, you might try searching to see if you can find info on them.  It gives you a tape with the shoes and you do a lot of plyometrics while wearing them, also jump rope, jump rope, jump rope!!!  Good luck!

  8. This is what i do to practice (I practice outside against a wall)

    Warm up:

Go over 2 step block approach- 5 times

3 step block approach- 5 times

5 step block approach- 5 times

Spike approach then transition back- 5 times

    Overhand serve- 10 times

    Jump serve- 10 times

Pass, set, hit against the wall- 10 times

    Now work out:

Since you said you want to be a setter work on setting mainly try different techniques and to that for about 10 or 15 minutes

That is just what i think you should do. From there to get the jumping higher (in the warm up with practicing the approaches that should help a little) Also you should so leg exercises it will make your leg muscles stronger to help for a higher jump. Attach leg weights to your ankles and do some exercises with those. You should probably just simply jump about 15 times a day and keep track everyday how far you get.

And if you want to work on libero skills get a reflex (also know as reaction) ball and work with that.

My advice is just work hard and dedicate yourself i hope those workouts helped some.
