  1. HOW OLD IS THE UNIT ? WHY NOT HAVE THE COMPRESSOR REPLACED,INSTEAD OF THE COMPLETE UNIT.UNLESS THE UNIT ITSELF HAS ALOT OF AGE OR COIL LEAKS,

ITS ALOT CHEAPER TO REPLACE THE COMPRESSOR,$4TO5 HUNDRED VS. $1500.00 OR MORE FOR THE COMPLETE UNIT,DON'T LET THEM TELL YOU IT COST MORE BECAUSE ITS A HEATPUMP,THE COMPRESSOR IS THE SAME HEATPUMP OR CONVENTIONAL SPLIT SYS. DO YOU KNOW FOR A FACT THE COMPRESSOR IS BAD? HAVE IT LOOKED AT BY ATLEAST 2 DIFFERENT COMPANIES,DONT LET ONE KNOW WHAT THE OTHER HAS SAID,SEE HOW DIFFRERENT THEIR SALES PITCH WILL BE.

  2. Unless the existing heat pump is 13 SEER or higher the outdoor unit will need a matching indoor coil to go with it.

Anyone who would replace the outdoor section and leave the old 10 SEER coil in place is ripping you off!

You are paying more money for a more efficient outdoor unit, and without the proper coil you won't get the efficiency you are being charged for. (13 SEER is the new federal law minimum)

Around here we call this a HACK job.

An honest contractor will tell you this.

To do this properly expect between $4200 and $5200 depending on quality of equipment used.

  3. At least $1,000 but depends on your location and local labor rates. Best to call around for 3-4 free estimates

  4. 3000$-4000$ depending on the tonnage and the SEER rating.
