  1. expect up to $50 per hour or as small as $30

  2. Here's the deal, you're REALLY looking for someone who can "TEACH" not tutor, right? Sounds like the Math teacher cannot do one-on-one for your kid. If it were my kid, I'd call the local college of education (every city has one) and ask about a student who is working on his/her TEACHING degree.  These are people interested in actually teaching.  Even if you have to take him over to the campus, it's well worth it.  You'll have a dozen wanna-be teachers killing themselves to make sure your kid understands Math.  Whereas any tutor cares about the $$.

There are TONS of free, on-line Math tutors as well.  Type in Algebra games on GOOGLE and you'll find several that are fun and teach in the process.  You kid's school should also have a list of on-line sites that do this.  Bringing a stranger into your house is just going to make the kid feel inferior, whereas telling him HE would be helping out some college kids by letting them work with him, might make him feel cool.

But, your question, HOW MUCH? The range of $25/hour sounds right, more than that at you're being scammed.  But at the college, you'd most likely be given FREE help by willing professors of college students.

    Good Luck!
