I'm going to Turkey on saturday and want to know how much I should be paying for a complete bellydance outfit.

I know they are expensive here as I do bellydance but don't want to get ripped off over there. I'm staying near dalaman?

Any thoughts and suggestions are greatly appreciated

  1. Expect roughly $80 to $150 US for majority outfits.

To give you an example: http://turkish-emporium.com/typesearch.p...

My husband was going to buy one for me when he was stationed in Iraq from a market's booth. The men (from Turkey) raised and lowered the prices based off of who was interested. They raised it higher on my husband who is military (American's are assumed to have "money" in other countries). So he wasn't able to get me the outfit. Would of cost $200 American. He was upset because the next person, got it for $50 American.

So, heads up. Be-aware of where and whom you are buying from.

Look online and in local stores of outfits, self and manufactor made. Get an idea of what certain materials cost. If you feel it is too expensive, most likely it is. Cost is driven up to make profit.

I like to make my own outfits by shopping at salvation army, lower income stores. Where I learned from my past teachers that I can make just as good or better outfits at a cheaper price. If can't sew, then doesn't cost much to find someone who can if need sewing.

  2. You definitely should pay significantly less than you would pay at home.  It will depend upon the style(s) too.  You should have some idea how much they would cost from a vendor, so you have an idea which styles would be pricier than others.

A couple of places that carry costumes from Turkey.

    The Belly Dance Shop

    Dahlal

Tulumba.com has a wide variety of products from Turkey, including belly dance costumes, but currently they have mostly hip sashes and separates.
