I am thinking of remodeling my shower and the guy told me to find a plumber to put a new drain in. I just want to know how much before the plumber tells me.

  1. Get a few quotes.  A lot of plumbers will come out and give you a quote for free.  It is very hard to give you a rough price without seeing the job.  Plumbers normally charge anywhere from about $45 to $100 an hour.  Generally the smaller plumbers will be cheaper and give you a better service than the big companies.

  2. It depends on the scope of work being performed.  Average should be approximately $400-$600.  Not only the drain is replaced, but the shower pan needs to be replaced also.  A permit should be pulled, so that an inspector checks the work for code compliance.  Good luck!

  3. Get a quote from two different plumbers.

The higher priced plumer will put a DRAIN on your wallet.
