Question:

How much should I expect to pay for this engagement ring?

I'm not sure when I'm going to propose, I still have to save a little bit of money for the ring, so it will be a little bit. Anyway I know she wants a tiffany's ring, the one she showed me is about a .97 carat, color is G or F, and clarity is VS1 or VS2. I was told to go as close to a carat without going over because it will be considerably cheaper....how much should I expect to spend on a ring like this?

  1. If buying this ring at Tiffany's expect to pay more because you are paying for the ring and the Tiffany's name.  As far as the ring goes, the common rule for a guy to buy an engagement ring is three months salary.  So, do not spend anything over what you make in those three months.  My fiance spent two months salary on my ring and it's a really good size.  When I went to have it appraised they actually said that it was worth $1000 more than what he spent on it... Therefore, i would say to go ahead and try to find a ring similar to the Tiffany's ring... Try Jared, or Zales... Hope this helps.

  2. 5-7k

oops did not see the vs1-2

about 8-9k my finace has a 1.18carrot Si3-I1  and it was orignaly marke at 6k but i had a trade in and talked them down a bit....got it for 3500

  3. ouch you're gonna have a payment for a good ten to fifteen years at least

  4. Muffin is right. I have a 1-carat in platinum from Tiffany (not the classic setting, a different one) and it was 20k.

Go to the store and get a consultation. You dont have to buy anything that day; just ask questions and get prices so you are well-informed.

  5. maybe about 5,000-6,000

  6. $8000 range

  7. Well if she MUST have a tiffany ring..expect to over pay for the ring you could get at any other store...I went and looked at a tiffany ring..it was .38 carat...beautiful ring....9,000 dollars! my ring that I have is from ben bridge..its a one carat with .60 carats onthe sides and my fiance paid 7 grand for it...so if she is going to be all high maitinence about it...then prepare to spend too much...tell her she can have a bigger ring for the same price she wants you to pay for a tiffany's smaller ring....that sucks....I cant believe she said she has to have a tiffany ring..blah! good luck!

  8. get pure gold , no diamond.  diamonds can only be resold for half of what you pay.

  9. At bluenile.com you can get that exact ring setting and diamond for $7,200.

You can go to bluenile.com and build it yourself.  A "Tiffany setting is just a six-prong solitaire, which BlueNile sells).

You will pay 30%-60% more to have the little blue box with the words "Tiffany & Co." on it.  Tiffany has very beautiful rings and diamonds, but so do a lot of other places (liek bluenile.com).  Tiffany's is VERY overpriced, you will pay a lot for the brand name.  You described a $20,000 Tiffany's engagement ring.

  10. Do you mean a Tiffany ring or a tiffany setting?

A tifanny setting you can get anywhere. It'a just the style of ring setting.

So, the price will Depend of where you get it.

You can build your own ring online and get an immediate price quote.

My ring is a Once carat, emerald cut, VVS1 (nearly flawless) and E in color (nearly colorless). My ring was $5000. We got the diamond at amazon.com and the setting in Jarreds. If we would have bought the diamond at Jarreds, it would have been at least 10k. They had average to low quality diamonds there, they offered us a less than one carat a diamond that was very yellow and imprefect for 4k!!!! just for the diamond! and that diamond was gross. We went to other stores (zales etc.) and their diamonds were crappy and very overpriced. I highly recomend coing to amazon.com to get a good quality diamond without the overhead costs, no shipping and no tax in most states.

    Good luck and congratulations

  11. an engagment ring is usually a 3 month salary :) good luck

  12. Wow, don't know what they are going for today. The only thing I could suggest is to shop around. if you have a pic. of the ring, bring it in to the places you go to show what type you are looking for.

  13. Why does it have to be Tiffany's?  They are more expensive just because of their name brand.  Be prepared for a lifetime of princess-like behavior from your fiancee.

  14. roxxn was the most accurate in answering your question. i did a lot of research on tiffanys when my fiance and i were looking because i loved their novo setting. for just under a carat could have cost about 15,000. my ring is from robbins brothers and i got 1.75 carats total weight (including the band) for 8,000. it would have to be a really small, low quality ring to find one at tiffanys for under 10,000 or even 12-13,000.

  15. shaneco.com

    jared.com

both have lots of rings online with prices for each. compare there and expect to pay similar.

  16. that depends on the strore...in Canada, and in Toronto, that ring can range from about 8,000 at a diamond dealer or upwards of 15,000 at Tiffany's or Royale de Versaille.  I myself would go for the full 1.00 carat in a G, VS2, its a carat , looks white and you really cant see the inclusions....

P.S. never buy it in a setting...buy the diamond like a commodity not jewellery. The settings can hide inclusions or imperfections..so you are probably getting a worse diamond than you believe.

  17. Depends on how much you make and how much you love the girl.  The old standby answer is 4 months of your yearly salary.  That's a good estimate.  If the girl is very material, and would want the best you may want to go more to make her happy.  But remember, this is not something you can ask to get back, so you better mean it.  I'd say a 2-8K ring is a good range to shoot for.  One big diamond is always better than a bunch of little ones.

  18. Well, at Tiffany's you will have to just pay what they are charging, which is usually considerably more because you're buying it at Tiffany's.  You could probably get a very similar ring anywhere else and pay less for it but if you are committed to buying it from Tiffany's then expect to pay a lot.

No offense, but your fiance sounds very demanding with the summer engagement requirements and Tiffany's rings....

  19. Go to a whole carat...

You know what... It will probably come around $4,000 for the whole ring... but I would buy it on a set... So you also have the wedding band ... It probably costs around $2000 more...

    and remember the tax...

And have's to be Tiffany... theres something about that turqoise box that really gets me :-)

  20. Over $4000 at the very least. It will also depend on what kind of setting you put the diamond in.

  21. If you're buying it from Tiffany's then expect to pay close to 10,000 or even more, depending on how good of a diamond you're actually going to get when you go to the store.

If you go to a jeweler with the picture and have them make it for you exactly the same (they always do), expect to pay probably upto $1500 less.

Edit: platinum is double the price of white gold. This means if the setting (without diamond) is $1000 expect to pay almost double for platinum and then add the price of diamond.

  22. I got a diamond very similar to what you are looking for.  The only difference is that I got D color, that pushed me to $7,000 for the entire ring (I got her a platinum band).

  23. keep around a grand or 2 maybe three, or u could always try ebay
