  1. Feed them twice a day, as much as they will eat at the time. The best food is live: earthworms, fishes (not goldfish) and soft-bodied insects. When you can't get live food, cut strips of liver and dust them with bone meal.

  2. Feeding frequency and items depend on the age of the turtle.  What do you mean by "baby"?  Are they 2 mo. old, or 1 yr. old?

A baby/young turtle's diet should be comprised of 80% meat (guppies, Rosy minnows, cooked chicken, gut loaded crickets, small Phoenix and Silk worms, etc.) and pellets, as well as 20% water plants and vegetables (yellow, acorn, zucchini, pumpkin, etc. squashes; kale, dandelion greens & flowers, water cress, duck weed, water lettuce, Anacharis, etc.)  Cut veggies to bite size portions for babies.  Avoid spinach as this binds calcium.

Keep a bird cuttle bone in the water to provide calcium in the diet.

Fruit can be offered as a snack 1-2 times a week (grapes, orange wedge [no seeds], apple, pear, peach, cantaloupe, etc.).

Enjoy your turtles, and I hope this has been helpful.

  3. as much as they can eat in about 10 minutes i think, about once a day, make sure you have at least a 70 gallon tank for when their bigger (probably bigger), and proper lighting, heating, and filters, and basking areas

  4. the first answerer isn't correct, 2-3 times is too much, and your turtle will became too fat. I suggest once a day for babies, and then after they reach 3 inches every other day.The diet for the turtle should be reptomin pellets ( and other nutricuos pellets!) crickets, mealworms, bloodworms, shrimp, and krill. All of this is found dead at the petstore!;) They also need vegetation, get kale, mustard greens, romaine lettuce, and collard greens. Drop all of the food in the tank once a day, and remove any leftover bits after a few hours. By the way ALL of the protien food ( dead food, that was alive once) should be dusted with a calcium supplement ( powder) twice a week and you need to get a cuttlebone found in the bird aisle of the petstore and drop it in the water for him to knaw on, keep it there for a while (month) until they eat all of it, then get another. Once all of these things are done your turtles will be pretty happy!

  5. Turtles are omnivores which means they eat both meat and veggies. They enjoy bloodworms (come frozen at the pet store). You can also give them cooked chicken or beef. Any leftover lettuce, tomatoes, carrots, etc will also do. Once or twice a day feedings for babies. Don't put so much at once and they won't overeat.

They like to eat in the water btw.

  6. The bigger the environment the bigger the healthier the turtle.

Did you know that they need to bask under a reptile light UVA for 8 to 10 hrs a day for the vitamin D that they need to grow. So that means getting a turtle dock also. At night they sleep under watyer in streams, rivers, ponds or tanks to be safe from predators land and by air.

Leave the heater on 75 to 78 degrees always.

Their water needs to be clean otherwise they get sick easily from dirty water cause they p**p allot.

You need a good filter system! Gravel larger than they can swallow.

You need to feed them feeder guppies, goldfish or minnows for protein and calcium daily drop 20 or so in the tanks and watch them disappear! This way when they swim for their dinner they get exercise also!

They can have garden worm, meal worms, crickets, flies anything that moves! TOSS in a bird cuttle bone in the water for calcium. it will dissolve real slow and if they eat it that’s fine!!

They need leafy greens Romaine, Butter lettuce. (Iceberg and cabbage are bad for them, any other leafy greens will do) for vitamin A that they need at least 3 to 4 times a week.

You probably already know that they get sick easily, shell rot, respiratory sickness, lopsided swimming, coughing, blowing bubbles, Swollen cloudy eyes means lacking in Vitamin A. Which we all need for good eyes. Google ‘vegetables with Vitamin A.

Males have long front nails used in mating, the girls well short stubby nails.
