Question:

How much should I pay for HVAC?

I recently bought a 3150 sq ft house, it was a short sale, so the previous owners took the air conditioner with them. Everything is set up (ducts, etc.) and the FAU is in the attic. So, since everything is in place, a new condensor would just have to be placed outside and hooked up, correct? The house is only 4 years old. Do I need a 5 ton and how much should I pay to have installed?

  1. 10000000000

  2. 700-800 sq ft to the ton.....go with a 5 ton should cost u about $3,500.00

    lic. gen. contractor

  3. The act of taking the AC unit was illegal, regardless of the type of sale. The AC is considered a part of the house and would be the same as removing the windows or roofing. Not every condensor will be compatible with your inside unit. The system is designed to work together for maximum efficiency. My son in law's house was built by a contractor who had a friend put in the AC. The friend was going out of business and piecemealed a system together from leftover parts of several different systems. After three years of constant failures and patches he finally wound up replacing the entire system. Just hope you can find a dealer who has a compatible condenser.

  4. Yes, correct. You should have the HVAC guy come out and take a look. Make sure they are licensed and insured, if they are they are less likely to scam you because it's their license on the line, and they will be honest if you need a 5 ton. You should also get estimates from them as well, for supplying the unit. They get better deals on supplies, and even if they up charge you it still will be cheaper for you in the long run. Hope I was helpful! Good luck with your home improvements!
