Question:

How much should I pay for an old Jaguar?

We have a house in Vermont and there is a Jaguar XJ6 at someone's house, in 3 foot high grass there. The guy who owns it said to give him a price. It's been sitting there at least 8-10 years. It has 38,000 miles on it. The finish is dull, but we can't really see that much damage (altho' this is Vermont, where 3-4 feet of snow is not uncommon). There is a sticker on the car that says 1995, so I'm thinking it's from the early 1990s. What is the car worth? What should I offer, knowing nothing about it's drivability? Would be cool to have a Jag tho'...

  1. Look inside the driver side door .. should say what year if its not in the window.. or even the manual . to get a price on it .. look it up on E bay .. since its not running offer 1/4 what ebay says for a running one..  he may give it to you or counter offer..

  2. offer him $500. thats a bit above the scrap rate, and it will need a lot of work before it becomes roadworthy again!

  3. Pass on this one. It isn't a classic or collectible and would be a "money pit" to get running. The only Jag's that are worth saving are those from the 60's and earlier.

  4. Cause of the low miles its worth a lot, but all the part maybe damage from sitting in the harsh weather and that going to cost alot to repair. Have it towed and get it check out and give that owner $5000

  5. My friend has a 96 XJ6 Sovereign.  Nothing cool about a car that has an I6 that gets 16 MPGs on premium gas.

Oh, as much as I should be true to the Brit roots in my family tree, that car was built in England...no way I'd buy that!

  6. Reminds me of when i spent $100 on drinks for an old Cougar..she was hot though dammit.

  7. I ride around and look for stuff like this,, hes what you do he said make him an offer of 100 bucks and if he dont take let him tell you want he want and he will. I've done this alot on old cars and sometims they would say ok just to get it out of the yard or you might get it for 200 always go low but have in mind what you can spend and just dicker(thats Arkansas talk) with him on the price.

  8. dude thats an awsum car ..  if he doesnt have any other offers start out at around like 10k and work it up

  9. ITS WORTH NOTHING... jags from that time period are some of the worst cars ever built.
