How much should I reduce the cost of my car because of a rusted car door?

I am trying to sell it but I need to reduce the price because the driver's door is rusting. It's the only spot that is showing rust but it is very noticeable.

  1. Here's what I'd do if I was in your situation:

    1. Go to http://www.kbb.com/ and get estimates for your vehicle as-is and without the rust. If there is a significant jump without the rust, proceed to step 2.

    2. If you decide that replacing the door is worth it, you have two options: the dealership or the dismantler. The dealership will rip you off, so scour the dismantling yards.

    3. Once you find a door, buy or borrow a Chilton or Haynes (better) manual for it. If you have to buy it, include it with the sale. The manual will tell you how to hang the door--it can be tricky, but step 4 will eat up enough money.

    4. Once the door is hung, take it to a good body shop (not Maaco, Earl Scheib, or similar) and have them repaint the new door if it doesn't match. Only the least observant buyers won't notice a hastily, poorly repainted body panel.

    Good luck.

  2. I think before you reduce the cost because of door better go to check what will be the cost if you replace door from car Junk yards. From junk yards you can even get same model door in cheap price then ask someone to replace.

Compare the total expenses with the cost you are going to reduce then decide.
