Question:

How much should I sell my Chihuahua puppies for?

Ok, so my Chihuahua just had 5 puppies about 5 days ago. They are all looking great, eating well, and the vet said they looked very healthy! She had 4 males and only 1 female. We're going to be keeping a male, my friend, who provided stud services is keeping a male, and the female is going to my boyfriends little sister. So that leaves 2 left to sell to good homes! I just don't know how much to sell them for. PLEASE help!! They are purebred, they don't have papers, and when I sell them, they will have all of their necessary shots, be dewormed and everything else that's appropriate with their age. I don't want to charge too much, but I also don't want the price to be too low to where just anyone will be able to buy one. SO if anyone has any suggestions, I would greatly appreciate it!! THANKS!!!

  1. I agree with the first answer. While your puppies may appear to be healthy, since you just bred them haphazardly there's no real reason to believe they'll be healthy in the future. People who pay for purebred puppies generally expect that they will have papers and will have been tested for health problems - which yours have not been. You should sell them for the price of the vaccinations, and expressly tell any buyers that they are not pedigreed dogs so nobody gets any false impressions.

And please, no more backyard breeding! Get your dogs fixed.

  2. Purebreed doesn't mean anything without papers to prove it. Charge only what you paid for the shots and get your dog spayed.

Just because you are not "trying" to be a backyard breeder, doesn't make you any less of one.

  3. Sell them for as much as the shots and dewormer cost.

That is all they are worth!

  4. wow you people just dont stop....first of they have no papers so more than likely they are not purebred, secondly you have no clue about breeding so why are you doing it? theres plenty a reputable breeders your friends and families could go to and get an actual purebred dog, h**l they could go to the shelters and save the ones that you are helping kill by breeding your dogs, get your dogs spayed..and sell the pups for the price of their first shots. you should be ashamed of yourself.

LMAO @ Samantha , god i hope you are joking (i dont think you are)...in that case your response is very ignorant.

  5. They don't have papers, so $50 each and that should include vaccinations.

  6. well how about 200 dollars I had a friend who sold his shihtzus for 200 with no papers.  good luck

  7. I would go 400 or 500. hope this helps

add: put your head back up your butt sarah. she asked a question and I gave her an answer instead of attack her like you.

  8. you should probably price them 100-200

it seems low but in the case they may not sell if any higher

  9. Uhm vet checked isn't good enough parents need to be titled and be health checked against genetic problems by ofa. You can't test dogs until they are two for these problems.

You can charge whatever you want because truly a sucker is born every day. What are they worth? Squat they can't be shown they shouldn't be bred they are pet quality dogs from pet quality parents so at the most they are worth their vaccination fees.

So you love your dog, we ALL love our dogs so should we all breed them too? You're SUPPOSED to love you dog, take care of it, take it to the vet, this is not a clearance card to be a BYB. And unless you have titled dogs that are tested by OFA you are relegated to that category.

You can NOT know if a dog is purebred without papers sorry that kind of defeats the purpose of papers in the first place. Sorry you will have no support here except from novices who think somehow that breeding willy nilly isn't ruining breeds or people who think daw puppies r so cuuute.

  10. Well... since they're not registered, parents haven't been titled in shows or tested for genetic disease.... it would be wrong for you to charge any more than the cost of their first round of vaccinations.  And since you can't ETHICALLY charge much money for them, you'll have to rely mostly on screening prospective buyers to ensure they go to good homes.  Here's some info on how to screen buyers.

You might want to read up on ethical breeding practices as well.

  11. maybe 100?? i mean they dont have any papers and the buyer will never know if they are really full blooded. i think that you shouldnt do anymore backyard breeding. i mean there are like thousands of dogs being killed each day just because they dont have homes. many dogs need homes right now.
