How much should I sell my Circle Y Saddle?

I have a Circle Y Show Saddle that my mom bought about 15 years ago for me. It is very dark leather, has silver on the horn behind the seat, on the skirts, where the back cinch would be.

It is in very good shape, but missing one silver plate on the left side of the skirt. The seat is 14.5--- I need to sell it right away but I am not sure how much to sell it for. I know my mom bought it for $700.00. Does anyone know about Circle Y saddles from this era??

I am asking $400.00 OBO, but I think that is too cheap...

  1. I think you're right on.  I sold one in mint condition, more silver and none missing, that I paid over $900.00 for back when Circle Y still made excellent saddles, and I only got $550.00 for it.  It was the same dark chestnut leather and a 15 inch seat..again...it was in absolute mint condition.

  2. Well the one problem with having a saddle from the 1990's is that you're looking at silver overlay if it is silver.  AND probably a fiberglass tree.  I LOVE Circle Y and actually just got another one back in '06 thanks to my late hubby who'd had to listen about my tale of having mine stolen (Mine was a 11/69 model, fully buckstitched, old Diablo solid sterling silver for concho's and horncap, which I'd removed in '86 to place on my then NEW Broken Horn saddle I was having made.).  Two years ago, we paid $800.00 for this new saddle (without the sterling), but then the market was up as well.  Of course it did also have a rawhide covered wood tree, too.

The market for horses and tack is REALLY depressed right now.  I had a custom made roundskirted, FQH treed beautiful saddle with sterling and FINALLY got $400.00 for it in this market.

  3. that may b ok but i would try 500.00 obo

so they can go down to 400.00

  4. With this market...you might find it more difficult to get a higher price.  I bought one that sounds like yours...for $200.

Having the smaller seat might make it harder to sell also.  Most people I know...require a larger one.  At least for grown ups...

But if I was looking for my smaller child...I would consider it for $400.
