How much should I tip for a massage?

I am volunteering for a student massage therapist and just wondering how much I should tip her?

This is such a dangerous question for a guy like me to be answering. I can barely control myself.  Just make sure you are graciously thankful at the end.

You don't tip for a massage.  You're already paying entirely too muich for it.

If you're volunteering for a student I am guessing the massage is free.  I would tip her anywhere from $5.00 to $10.00.

But if you were to go to a spa and pay for a massage or facial it is customary to tip 15-20% (just as you would in a restaurant, hair salon, etc.).

If you're paying a minimal amount at a student clinic, or getting the massage for free, it's customary to tip $3-$10 depending on how well you liked the massage.  Also, if the supervisor or instructor is close by when you receive the massage, be sure to give your student a good word.  If it's a written evaluation, be sure to write down what you liked and didn't like about the massage.  It helps the student improve his/her technique.
