Every state, province and country has their own wage legislation

There is a minimum wage set out in what is a labour code and that is the least any person should be paid. Find out what the minimum wage is in the state or province you live in and that is what one should be paid no matter what age they are.

bear in mind that some neanderthal decided that in the food industry in some or perhaps all of the American states that a waitress could be paid less than minimum wage as they feel she or he will maximize and go over minimum with tips.

I think that this should be challenged by all as unconstitutional, but I am but one drop in the whole scheme of things.

A lot depends on what industry and state you are working in. For example, the casual award wage in NSW for an under 16 year old retail shop assistant is $7.05 per hour.

In Brisbane, the casual award wage for an under 17 fast food worker is $9.40 per hour.

Google award rates (your state) and look it up if either of the above isn't relevant to you. Check the casual loading and the junior rate and apply them to the adult full time wage.

Well in Kansas, believe it or not, the minimum wage is 2.65 an hour.....but most get at least 6 an hour.

Three years ago a part time fast food worker at 14 was getting $4.96 an hour, so it must be up around $5.30 by now. This was on a special award for that one chain of pizza shops. General awards tend to be slightly more generous.

Fast food and hospitality generally are not well paid; other industries might be paying more, and places such as newsagents often pay by negotiation.
