forward facing? Or put them in the "built in" child seats that some vehicles have? I was told 30 lbs. My son is 25 lbs/13 oz and my inlaws took him in their "built in carseat" when they were babysitting.

  1. depends on your state law. Most states law is 1 year old and 20 pounds not either or.

  2. The child needs to be 1 year old before forward facing.  I am not sure about the regulations for the built in seats.  You can contact the dealership and ask them.

  3. It is 1 year AND 20 pounds, but they can stay rear facing for as long as they are comfortable.  Rear facing is still safer than forward facing.

  4. car seats vary, check the labels on the seat it should be on there somewhere. but i think generally infant seats only support kids up to 20 lbs.

  5. The law is over 20 pounds and at least a year old. But it is up to you. If you feel that your child is safer rear-facing then by all means keep him that way.

  6. Law clearly says 1 year AND 20 pounds, not "OR".  You're safe to turn him around forward.  Use a middle position to do so rather than to the side because if you are in an accident the middle will be safer for him.

  7. The carseat themselves often give you weight recommendations.  If it is a front facing/rear facing, it should say on there what height and weight to turn it around.

  8. It is 1year and 30 pounds. I would just tell them to do what you say because you are the parent and the boss. I know telling them this may hurt their feelings but you need to know your baby is safe with them. Good luck.
