How much should a half pound of freon cost for AC?

Well this is for a house AC, and yes a mechanic is selling it. I was just wondering what he should be charging.

IDK.  Freon is only sold in Mexico.  Not in US.

it depends i have an older car and it costs more

HVAC Tech.:  The cost will run between $5 and $10 dollars that will NOT include installing it. Legally only a certified technician can sell or install  R-22 or R-12. Hope that helps and keeps you out of trouble.

You cannot buy refrigerants unless you have a license.  If you have one you already will know what it costs.  The actual material is not all that expensive.  Most of the cost is labor.  You are paying for all that training the tech had to go through.
