  1. I'd say that the average 14.2 pony should weigh 1000-1200 pounds. You should probably get your vet to come out, though. Obviously, a show pony is going to be more muscle than fat... but yeah, definitely get a vet out.

  2. depends.. you can't just put a weight on a height. They need to be judged by the scale of 1-10. 1 is dead skinny, 10 is obease. Both are BAD. The rule of thumb is you want a 5.. show people usually have 4's.. foundation and stock/ranch people like 6's. If you see ribs it can't be higher then a 4. If there are no ribs showing then you look at the fat pockets. Can you feel the ribs? Fat in the neck, elbow pocket, along the back.. etc.

  3. About 800 to 900 lbs.  I owned a 14.2 hand quarter mare that weighed 850 fit and 900 chunky...these are approximated using girth tape. It's what vets use, and you can buy it at many tack shops.

  4. my paint weighs about 800 pounds, and he is 14.2, and he is FAT!!! my appaloosa is 15.2 and weighs about 1000-1200, and he is a good size, not 2 skinny, not 2 fat. it also kinda depends if they are overweight alot cuz they r fat or a little overweight cuz they r muscular.

  5. It depends on how stocky the horse is.  I have a 14.2 hh gelding that is pretty large boned and built stocky and he weights just over 900 pounds.  I think anything over 1000 would be too heavy, personally.

Body Condition Score is really more important than weight because it's more subjective.  I like to keep my horses at a 4 or 5.  There are SO many fat horses (not to mention dogs) out there, I can't stand for mine to be among them.
