  1. Wine is very cheap in Italy. To save a little money purchase some wine to have in your hotel room. This way before going out you can indulge in some vino and the price of lunch or dinner will be a little cheaper. Have your biggest meal at lunch. Little breakfast, bigger meal at lunch and a little supper. You can do it on $75 euros a day, if you watch your spending. Don't forget to try some gelato (ice cream)

I loved Rome. Enjoy your time there.

  2. Well, breakfast is very cheap...if you don't sit at a table.  If you stand at a counter (as the Romans do) and have a cappucino and a cornetto (croissant), it will be between 1-2 euros.

For lunch, get pizza to go.  Another 2-3 euros.

For dinner, it can be anywhere from 10-30 euros per person, depending on what you get.  A lot of restaurants have a tourist menu, which isn't half bad.  It's generally a sampling of local cuisines, 3 courses.  With wine, this might be 15 euros.

Eating is cheap in Rome-it's everything else that's expensive.  You will probably spend more on museum tickets than on food.

Just remember that you will pay more for table service, so only sit down for dinner.  You can always get your stuff to go and then sit at a nearby fountain and people watch.  It's what the locals do.

You can also save by buying only one bottle of water, and then refilling it from one of the numerous spots in Rome to do so.  Near the Colliseum is a fountain that has "aqua potabile"-drinkable water.  There's another in front of Termini Station.  In fact, they're all over the place, if you look.  And you won't look like a homeless person if you do this.  Everyone does it.

  3. For the sake of answering i'll assume you're referring to American dollars.

    Probably around $80-100.

Rachael ray was able to do it on less than $40 (considering the Euro is stronger than the dollar) on her television show, but unless you're really savvy and can speak italian, you're probably going to wind up spending a bit more than that.

And even then, it's better to have too much than not enough.

Note that it's also not customary to tip.
