Question:

How much should i feed my 9 week old kitten?

i am confused about how much food she needs, i read lots of info on the net that sais 100-150 grams a day, but this is where i get confused because on the whiskers packet it sais 2-3 pouches a day for her age, and each pouch is 100 grams.

(it is kitten food not adult cat food.)

i hate the thought that i could be under feeding her but she seems perfectly happy with the usual 100-150 grams a day. she is very active and looks very healthy and cute.

should i just go with what i think because everyone seems to have different ideas about how much you should feed cats. who is right, whiskers or countless other sources on the internet.

any advice would be great. thx

  1. My boyfriend's cat (an adult, but the same applies) always has a bowl of some crunchy kibble  available to snack on, provide some for your kitten and she won't go hungry.

The cat will learn where she gets fed. If you are giving her too much food she'll simply leave what she doesn't want to eat, if it's too little maybe she'll go to that spot and meow, or give some other sign she wants some food. I have known a couple of cats that do that. Keep an eye on her weight though. :)

And Spotz Cheetah - the kitten is already 9 weeks old, that's well over a month.

  2. I just got a kitten she is also 9 weeks old. What I do is feed her can food which is 156 grams and i just divide that in half and feed her twice a day with some treats and she does not look at all underfed!

  3. as i have had kittens in the past i find 1 pouch a day is enough for a 9 week old if you also have a small supply of dry crunchy cat food avaliable all day for your kitten to snack on if she/he feels hungry

otherwise if the kitten does not like dry food serve to pouches per day

when your kitten is a year old feed 3 pouches per day (breakfast lunch dinner) and always keep a small bowl of dry food avaliable for between meal snacks or times when you wont be able to feed at the usual time you would feed your cat

  4. I would go with what the food packaging is recommending.  This is why:

Each food has a different amount of energy (measured in kilocalories) it can provide to the animals.  Some foods will recommend feeding more than other foods, some will recommend less.  The important thing is to feed the amount the manufacturer recommends for the weight of your kitten.  Something else I would recommend:  Read your labels.  Check for an AAFCO feeding recommendation near the guaranteed analysis and don't feed any foods that haven't been tested in feeding trials.  Your better foods will have been trial-fed.  You can feed less of them and get better results.  Pro Plan and Science Diet canned foods are good ones.

  5. i always feed my kittens a t will, i put a bowl of biscuits for them, and let them eat as much as they like, then fill it back up for when theyre hungry again.

i dont think it is right to feed them a "guided daily amount" i think they should eat as much as they want and reduce to meals as they het older.

  6. go to walmart and theirs these little can i forgot what there called but there in the food asile and it's 97cents

  7. well my friends cat had a kitten and the mom ran away so they had to take care of him. You need to give him about a tiny bit of milk, and some of that soft cat food. Feed the soft food to him until he is a month old.Ok?
