How much should i feed tubifex worms to my cichlids and clown knife?

I don't know if this is still the case or not, but it was recommended to NOT feed tubifex worms in any variety(live, frozen, freeze dried).  There was either a parasite or bacteria that could survive those processes and infect your fish.  Think it was a bacteria because of the conditions tubifex worms live in.  Any rate, like Jon said, what kind of cichlids?  Some are strictly herbivores and won't do well with a protein diet.


  2. How about you take the time to tell us WHAT your "cichlid" is?  Is it from South American?  Is it from Central America?  Is it from African?  What species is it?  What s*x is it?

    You are right Tiki in that tubifex is really not the best choice of foods because most of these black worms are raised in septic conditions, but if you can't find any other protein source, I'd use them as a treat factor only.  As well though, if this person has a pile of Mbuna, they are liable to promote Malawi bloat in them.  I really dislike information like this.  You should know the species of fish you are keeping or at the very least, where they come from.
