How much should i have tipped my hairdresser?

my hairdresser cut my hair yesterday and it turned out to be absolutely horrible. nothing like what I asked for. when I told her that, she got very defensive and started swearing at me. it was a $40 haircut, so i left her $5 instead of the usual $10. should i have left her more? less?

$40? If your haircut turned out to be absolutely horrible , five dollars was way too much of a tip, especially after her swearing at you. If she treats all of her clients the same way it's a wonder she is still in business. After all isn't there a saying in business the customer is always right. I would have just left a one penny tip to show how much I hated the results and her lousy attitude.  You should consider finding yourself another hairdresser if you don't want to get a similarly bad haircut again. Good Luck and hopefully you wont have any more bad hair days in the future.

Oh, I forgot about you stating you normally tip her $10. By tipping  her $10 with each $40 haircut, if you get four haircuts you have in affect paid her for five haircuts. And a 25% tip is way too much especially for lousy service like that. 15% on $40 would be $6 not $10.

You should not have paid her until the haircut was to your liking. Wow!  $10. on a $40. haircut - I call that over tipping, if you have done that in the past she should be a lot more responsive to your needs.

What girl! I would not have paid her anything!!! I never tip my hairdresser and I have been going to her for 10+ years. When you think about it she only cut your hair maybe an hour and she made $40.00 that's $40.00 an hour!!! I would go back today and talk to the manager if she is the manager I would go back and probably let her know how you feel and if she get ignorant than cus her out and never go back!

DONT FEEL BAD....IF SHE WAS SWEARING AT ME........THEN I WOULD HAVE TOLD HER MANAGER AND THEN I WOULDNT LEAVE HER ONE PENNY....AND IF THE MANAGER DIDNT DO HIS/HER BEST COMPINSATE FOR YOUR HAIRDRESSER'S MISTAKE, THEN I WOULD HAVE NEVER WENT BACK THERE AGAIN!!!!!!

Once she started using foul language with you, no tip should have been given.  You basically rewarded her for treating you like c**p.  I would not go back there again, and call the manager and let them know how you were treated.

If you werent satisfied with the haircut she gave you, you SHOULD NOT have left her a tip AT ALL!! If I were in your position and she started cussing at me I'd cuss back and pay her $20 instead of $40.

Why would you tip her more for a bad hair cut that was not what you wanted ! And she was swearing at you ! Call her boss and tell him or her how you were treated.Then find a new Beauty Shop ! I would not have left any tip ! You were more than kind !
