  1. i think it depends if he is gelded, how old he is, how much did he win.... what races did he win.... what where the horses he ran against..

  2. Don't pay to much. Unless it is a really good racer. Most race horses get neglected by there owner and jockeys. Be very cautious when buying a retired race horse. Normally they act up and get moody. Make sure you know what your getting into before you actually get into it.

  3. Depends what you intend to do with it? A lot is dependant on if it had injuries, extent and location of injuries, chronic breathing problems like roaring etc. You are going to pay more for one that came off the track sound and has the mind set to be re-schooled then one that was gelded at 6, has front bows and roars. Try the Thoroughbred Retirement Foundation - their adoption fees range from a few hundred for a pasture ornament that can't be ridden, to $1500 for something that has injuries but is still sound to ride to about $3000 for something sound and already being re-schooled. Mares are worth more if they have a decent race record due to breeding them. I paid $1500 for mine and he's a grandson of both Seattle Slew and Raise A Native. Has some legs issues though.
