I have a black 2007 Trek 1000 in good shape and i want to sell it. i paid around $750 for it. it has about 600 miles on it and it has a new back tire. everything is in pretty good shape except it has some scratches from the usual wear and tear. Im probably going to sell it on craigslist. thanks in advance.

  1. Although Max has confused a roadbike with the things little kids ride and skid everywhere (eg. BMX's) his price range is about right.

There is no real market for used bikes (whatever the value, or ridiculous 'used-bike-calculation-formulas' !!!!)

Forget the mileage!, - you would be lucky to get $350 dollars for it!

  2. Ask for 600$ and go down a little for them cause they always want to bargain.

  3. Sorry to be the bearer of bad news, it is used and has miles on it, since you replaced the rear tire people will think it will have been skidded all the time and will question the condition it actually is, your looking at $300-$400

  4. As an entry level bike, it's value will be a little less than usual, but since it's got low miles you might do ok.  The scratches don't help, though.  The 1000's usually sold for $600 to $700 around here, depending on the dealer.

The general rule of thumb is 10% to 20% off of retail for the first year, and about 10% for following years, taking into consideration any parts upgrades, wear and tear, damage, etc.

I'd say that $600 would be a bit high, all things considering, but you could ask for that and see what happens.  $500 is probably more realistic, unfortunately (no pun intended).

    Hope that helps....good luck!

  5. You might get just over half of what you paid. It would probably have been wiser to sell it just before the Summer though...

  6. $500
