It's a fortnight's stay for 2 in a two room apartment in the Vendee (one bedroom. one kitchen-diner). We usually clean up at the end but the French can be extremely exacting in this area and we were once told off when they found a hair in the shower! So this time we're thinking of booking a "femme de menage" to clean up after we've left. There was mention of €50 which sounds steep to me for such a small space. Any experience in this area anyone?

  1. I paid fifty euros to have a 2 bed/2 bath cottage cleaned after a 2 week stay near Biarritz.

  2. i saw a programm about french camping, and to "rent" a -femme de ménage- for 2 weeks that is around 50€, not realy expensive cause in france, the pay is around 6-7€ per hour

  3. You're right, this is expensive. If you employ someone directly it will be €8-€10 per hour. However if you go through an agency (or through the landlord) you might pay €20-€25 per hour, so if they're expecting to take 2 hours then I guess €50 makes sense. If you're going through an agency I'd suggest you push them on reducing the time needed - if it's the landlord you're dealing with you'll just have to decide whether it's worth it.
